Beau Bamburg Rules Hometown Of Portland

Local Favorite Shows Bag of Tricks to a Sold Out Audience

PORTLAND, Ore. (February 28, 2004) – IFMA Freestyle Motocross presented by XM Satellite Radio showcased some of the top riders in the world at the Memorial Coliseum this weekend.   The story of the weekend was that local favorite Beau Bamburg rode to his hometown crowd while injured.   Friday night Beau didn’t make the final, since he was riding injured from a spill he took during practice.    He stepped it up on Saturday for the sold-out crowd with a flawless run during first round, landing him in the number-one qualifying position.   Number two qualifier Matt Buyten didn’t get to sit in the hot seat for too long after his technical run that included numerous no-handed lander combinations.   Bamburg’s backflip to no-handed lander to start his run ignited the crowd as they cheered for their local hero for the rest of his two-minute run.   The judges and the audience both felt that Beau’s run deserved a first place score.   Other highlights of the weekend included the dancing antics of Myles Richmond and Ronnie Renner during the doubles competition.

Friday’s IFMA Freestyle Motocross Results:

  1. Matt Buyten              92.4
  2. Myles Richmond           92.2
  3. Andy Jones               92.0

Saturday’s IFMA Freestyle Motocross Results:

  2. Matt Buyten              93.0
  3. Jim McNeil                92.2
