Bess Lands First Win in West Valley During Night One as BooKoo Arenacross Ads Yet Another Main Event Winner!

Suzuki Fun Center Troy Lee Team Sweeps Night One in West Valley in Tightest Racing Yet for BooKoo Arenacross

West Valley City, UT December 2, 2005 ¿ Advanstar ¿ a leading provider of print, event and online media for the powersports, off-road and automotive aftermarket industries ¿ opened round four of the K&N presents BooKoo Arenacross Championship Series Brought to you by Toyota Friday night in beautiful West Valley City Utah.

The media in West Valley couldn’t get enough of the BooKoo Arenacross and neither could the fans as the energy in the stands fed into the riders who would be battling it out for bragging rights and a possible points lead.

In the 250cc Main Event, Shane Bess led the pack to the first turn with veteran Damien Plotts on the Crossroad Powersports RRP Racing Kawasaki on the pace and challenging for the lead. Josh Woods on the Fun Center Troy Lee Designs PPG Suzuki made a pass on Plotts early on and stepped it up to match the pace of Bess until stalling it on lap 6 allowing the hard-charging Hofmaster on the Sano PPG Shogun Yamaha to gain the ground needed to challenge him for the second spot.

Woods regained his composure and charged to the front once again to put the pressure on his teammate in the final laps but Bess was determined to grab the win and held off Woods by less than a quarter of a second at the checkered flag, making for a Fun Center Troy Lee Suzuki shootout in the final laps that drove the crowd into a frenzy. In the end it was Bess first, Woods second and Hofmaster a close third.

“I want to thank the team,” said Bess. “I think we’re the best team out here and they’ve put in a lot of work to get us where we are. I had some troubles the last couple weeks and cracked a couple ribs, but I feel good and the bike is strong, it feels good to land the Suzuki on top tonight.”

“I made a mistake and stalled it,” said Woods. Lucky for me I was able to get it restarted quickly and back on the pace but it just wasn’t enough to get by Shane.”

The 450 Main Event featured more of the closest racing yet this season as the Fun Center Suzuki team was set on a repeat sweep of the first two spots that they grabbed in the 250 main. The two were running a pace that was hard to match until the red flag came out due to riders down and a blocked lane in the track. In the restart it was Bess who edged out the competition with Hofmaster and Tiger Lacey on the Bookoo Energy Socal Al Lamb’s Honda close behind.

Woods would make the pass on Lacey and set his sights on the leaders, Bess and Hofmaster, but in the end it was all Woods crossing the line first with Babbitt Enxus Kawasaki’s Josh Demuth coming back from a mid-pack start to end up second. Lacey ended the night with a very impressive third and final podium spot.

The BooKoo Championship points race now has Woods on top with 222 as he regained the lead in front of Demuth who now posts 221 points in the BooKoo Championship.

Advanstar will host night two of round four Saturday night as the fastest riders in Arenacross return to see if they can grad a good start, maneuver the whoops, and end the night and the weekend on top of the podium. Gates open Saturday night at 6 p.m. with opening ceremonies beginning at 7:15 when Utah’s Governor Jon Huntsman, Jr. will suit up and ride out to greet the fans of BooKoo Arenacross. The Governor is an avid motocross enthusiast and supporter of motorcycling.
