Carmichael Continues Winning Ways, Earning Sixth Straight

Reigning 250cc EA SPORTS Supercross champion Ricky Carmichael, who rides for Honda, won his sixth-consecutive main event, eighth on the season in front of 53,312 fans at the Edward Jones Dome. Team Boost Yamaha’s Chad Reed won his first 125cc Eastern Regional Supercross championship and extended his winning streak to six.

A solid start moved Carmichael, the winner of the $1,500 POWERade Holeshot Award, allowed him to begin his pursuit to the checkered flag early. Bud Light Yamaha’s Jeremy McGrath ran as high as second place in the early stages, but was passed by Ernesto Fonseca within a few laps. Yamaha’s David Vuillemin, who is second overall in points with three wins on the season, made a late race charge and passed Fonseca on lap 19. Carmichael was first, Vuillemin second and Fonseca third. “It makes life easier when you get a Holeshot,” said Carmichael. “I want to win these last four races and keep the ball rolling. I am not going to let up, but I am prepared to finish this in Las Vegas.”

Although Reed, who is from Australia, followed Ryan Clark, Larry Ward and $1,000 POWERade Holeshot Award winner Kelly Smith into turn one, he managed to move into the number-one position on lap two. At the midway point, Grant Langston, who rides for Team Redbull/KTM, went down and brought Ward with him. The crash allowed Eric Sorby, who is competing in his second American supercross ever and Greg Schnell to hold on for second and third respectively. The 125cc Eastern Regional Supercross division concludes next weekend in Pontiac, Mich.

“I have been waiting for this my whole life,” said Reed. The American fans have been so great to me this year, and I want to thank them for that. I have always dreamt of this.”
