Carmichael Wins 12th in a Row

Newly crowned Supercross Champion Ricky Carmichael scored his 12th consecutive win and 13th of the season tonight in Salt Lake City, Utah, drawing within one race of tying Jeremy McGrath’s record for most consecutive wins in a row…

“I just got into the groove about the 11th lap and was able to open up some breathing room,” said Carmichael, who took over the lead for good on the seventh lap. “Now that the championship is mine, it’s all about the record books, and we’ve got one more to go.”

McGrath grabbed the holeshot at the start of the 20-lap main event, leading, Kevin Windham, RC and Tim Ferry. McGrath dropped to an eventual sixth right behind Lusk, who crashed in the first turn and raged through the pack. At the checkered flag, Ferry was within two bike lengths of Carmichael aboard his big YZ426F. LaRocco was a solid third ahead of David Vuillemin, who returned to action after several weeks off due to injury.

In the 125cc West Coast series finale, Ernesto Fonseca scored a popular win and clinched his second 125cc Western Region SX Championship aboard his Yamaha of Troy YZ250F. Plano Honda’s Ivan Tedesco turned in the best finish of his career, finishing second aboard his privateer CR125R ahead of Fonseca’s YoT teammate Justin Buckelew.
