While leading round 1 of the 2003 Extreme Sports Series Canadian Motocross Championship in Mission, B.C., Chris Wheeler went down hard suffering a serious back injury.
Wheeler was reportedly leading the 125cc class by roughly 10 seconds and pulling away, when he came up short in a rhythm section and flipped over the bars. Chris jumped up quick to take only two steps before collapsing. After being airlifted to a hospital in Seattle, it has been determined that Wheeler has two broken vertebrae, and compressed and twisted a third. Luckily, no paralysis has been reported. Chris is set to undergo surgery today to repair his back.
We wish Chris a safe and speedy recovery and will report back with any additional information.
