Honda wins two!

Team Honda’s Ricky Carmichael won his 10th250cc EA SPORTS Supercross main event and clinched his second championshipat Rice Eccles Stadium and Tower in front of 38,261 fans. Although Kawasaki’s James Stewart won his third 125cc Western Regional Supercrossmain event, Honda’s Travis Preston captured the championship – the first ofhis career.

Carmichael won the $1,500 POWERade Holeshot Award in the 250cc class, butwas passed shortly thereafter by Yamaha’s David Vuillemin and Honda’sErnesto Fonseca. On lap three Carmichael moved into the lead and Vuilleminsettled into second. Carmichael held on for the win, Vuillemin finishedsecond and Honda’s Sebastein Tortelli was third. Carmichael started theseason in last place with a did not finish (DNF) and became with first riderin supercross history to go from last place to first place in the seriesstandings.

“It was a tough season for me,” said Carmichael. “I started off the seasonin last and had nothing to lose, and here I am with my second title. David(Vuillemin) kept me honest the whole year.”

Sobe Suzuki’s Danny Smith earned the $1,000 POWERade Holeshot Award in the125cc main event, with Stewart and Preston rounding the first turn in secondand third respectively. As Stewart took over the lead, Preston moved intosecond place. Stewart walked away with the victory, Preston finished secondand Smith was third.

“My year has been unbelievable,” said Preston. “This week I didn’t eventhink about the championship, and early in the race I was just riding my ownrace, but towards the end I started to ride a little more conservatively.
