JP Takes Over WMA Points Lead at Hangtown

WMA Highlights in OLN’s 125cc AMA Pro Motocross Show

(May 23, 2005)-Bend, OR- Round two of the 2005 AMA/WMA National Motocross Championship was held this past weekend at the Hangtown MX National, on Saturday, May 21st. Moto XXX Honda’s Jessica Patterson took over the championship points lead with a 1-1 finish. The WMA also confirmed that highlights of the WMA Pro races are to be included in the 125cc Motocross that air on OLN this summer.

Patterson came into Round 2 of the AMA/WMA National Motocross Championship with a 12-point deficit to Yamaha’s Tarah Gieger, but took over the points lead with her 1-1 finish. Moto one took off on schedule Saturday at 3:30pm. The gate dropped just as the 30-second board began turning, catching some racers off-guard resulting in some controversy. Rookie pro Alisa Nix (Yam # 87) grabbed the Sick Racing  holeshot and had the local crowd cheering. French rider Livia Lancelot (Yam # 19) was in hot pursuit of Nix, with MDK’s Sheena Patterson (Hon #6), MXGirls’ Aubriana Dunn (Yam # 120), Jessica Patterson, Team Green’s Alex Haupt, Bluestarrmx’s Sarah Whitmore and Stefy Bau in tow. Gieger went down in the first corner, got up quickly and began picking off riders. By lap two, Lancelot was in the lead being chased down by Patterson and Whitmore. The three put on an amazing race for several laps with Patterson and Whitmore changing places a few times, before Whitmore crashed and Patterson took the lead from Lancelot. In lap four, Bau seized her motor and was unable to finish the race. Patterson finished first, Lancelot 2nd, and Whitmore 3rd.

Moto 2 was the last race of the day on a rough track following the men’s qualifiers. Patterson got the holeshot and led the entire race with Whitmore, Dunn, Sherri Cruse (KTM # 774), Elizabeth Bash, Gieger, and Excel Yamaha’s Tania Satchwell behind her. Whitmore was unable to jump the big step up double losing time to Patterson, finishing a solid 2nd place.  Unfortunately, Dunn crashed hard on the downhill double, chipping a tooth and getting a concussion. Satchwell moved up from 9th place finishing third.
