LaRocco to be Featured at Maxxis U.S. Open Media Day

(September 2, 2003) – Clear Channel Entertainment’s Motor Sports division announced today that defending Maxxis U.S. Open champion Mike LaRocco will be featured at this year’s media day on Thursday, October 9, from Noon-2:00 p.m. on the floor of the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

LaRocco, who won his first Maxxis U.S. Open last year by defeating two-time defending champion Ricky Carmichael, will be on hand to ride the track and answer questions from the media. Last year the South Bend, Ind., rider finished in first on Friday night and third on Saturday, giving him the win and $100,000.

“This is one of the most exciting events of the season, said LaRocco. “There is $300,000 in purse money and the best riders in the world, so winning this event last year was a milestone in my career.

The Maxxis U.S. Open, founded in 1998 is an invitation-only motocross race held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, featuring the world’s top supercross/motocross racers competing for $300,000 – the single largest payout in motorcycle racing. In addition to the premier open class of racing, the Maxxis U.S. Open also offers a variety of racing including minicycles and KTM Junior Supercross Challenge racing.
