Monster Energy-Backed Jason Lawrence Second Fastest @ Vegas SX – Battles From Last To 4th

CORONA, Calif., (May 7, 2007) — Monster Energy-backed Jason Lawrence (Yamaha of Troy), the 2007 AMA Supercross Lites’ Western Region runner-up, put on the best come-from-behind performance of the Las Vegas Supercross weekend finals this past weekend, coming from nearly dead last after the opening lap to 4th overall in the annual East/West Dave Coombs Sr. Lites Shootout on Saturday.

“That was a blast, man, said Lawrence after the race. “Sucked I couldn’t make the podium, but I gave it everything I had trying.

Lawrence, who finished just a couple seconds — or what would have been an extra lap at his pace — off the podium, saved his best for last, clocking a second best (behind race winner Ryan Dungey) 1:08.899 lap — 1/100th off the fastest Lites class time of the night.

“Yamaha of Troy had my YZ250F dialed and I was just clicking off fast lap after fast lap with my best ones coming at the end, said Lawrence. “I wanted to make the podium so bad, and think I would have had I not screwed up the start.

Not only did Lawrence barely make the top five in the all-star contest, he barely made the main — transferring from the final spot of the LCQ.

“I needed the heat race just to shake off Vegas from the night before, he said laughing.

In the main Lawrence suffered a pre-first turn gap and basically let the entire field of the world’s best 250F class supercross racers out in front of him. Not to be out-done, the New Jersey native showed off his gobs of natural talent and obvious podium-level physical stamina to pass all but a few of the world’s top up-and-coming racers, missing the podium by one click.

Most importantly for Lawrence the charge from last to the front of the pack against the best field assembled all year instilled just the confidence he needed as the supercross series now morphs into the Outdoor Nationals, kicking off at Hangtown (Prairie City, Calif.) in two weeks.

“I plan on shining outdoors, added Lawrence. “That’s what I’ve been looking forward to all supercross season long.”

Next up for Monster Energy’s Jason Lawrence is the opening round of the Toyota AMA Motocross Championships, aka the “Outdoor Nationals, May 20th at Prairie City’s (Calif.) Hangtown MX track.
