Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Abbott Takes Second After Hard Get Off During Best In The Desert

Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Destry Abbott and Kawasaki dealer-support rider Matt Karlsen teamed-up to race the Kawasaki Team Green Laughlin U.S. Hare Scrambles, earning a second-place finish. The race took place in Laughlin, Nev. on Saturday, March 3, 2007.

Karlsen, who rides for Kawasaki dealer Sun Enterprises out of Thornton, Colo., was invited to ride last minute to fill in for injured Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Nathan Woods. Karlsen turned in a notable ride and impressed his racing teammate.

“He really rode awesome for not spending any time in the desert,” said Abbott of his teammate.

Abbott and Karlsen were running first until the last loop when Abbott bottomed out after a drop-off and crashed. He remounted, with a bloody lip and broken front brake lever, to finish just six seconds overall behind first-place.

“Its hard not to get a little frustrated,” said Abbott after the race. “I?m still going to keep working hard and I know my luck will change sooner than later.”

Abbott’s injuries were not serious. He will be back on his KX?450F in Lake Havasu, Ariz. for round three of the WORCS series starting March 16, 2007.
