IRVINE, Calif. (February 19, 2007) — Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Nathan Woods captured a solid third-place ride at round two of the World Off Road Championship Series at Racetown 395 in Victorville, Calif.
After an unexpected DNF at the opening round in Phoenix, Woods proved he is back to the form that earned him the 2004 and 2005 championships. He was in seventh off the start and used the entire two-hour race to work through the field, finishing strong in third aboard his Kawasaki KX"¢450F.
“I was happy with the podium position especially after my bad luck in Phoenix, said Woods, who moved up to 12th in the Pro class point standings. “I look forward to being on the podium for the rest of the series.
Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Destry Abbott placed 11th after coming back from a first turn crash. He is currently tied for fourth in the Pro class point’s standings.
“It’s a scary feeling when you have 30-plus guys still behind you and you can’t go anywhere, said Abbott, referring to his crash. “I knew I just needed to stay out there and salvage whatever points I could.
Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Ricky Dietrich crashed during the parade lap prior to the start of the race. He was taken by paramedics to a local hospital for examination where preliminary diagnosis suggested a fractured humorous bone in his upper arm. Dietrich will be checked out by a personal physician this week to determine the extent of the injury.
The Semi Pro class podium was solid green as Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Green rider Josh Morros earned his second win of the season and teammate Jamie Lanza took third place. Team Green dealer assist rider Brad Goolsby, of Northland Kawasaki (Flagstaff, Ariz.), rode hard for a second-place finish.
