Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Ben Townley 2nd at Indy SX – Makes Up Big Points On O/A Lead

CARLSBAD, Calif., (March 26, 2007) — Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Ben Townley made up some ground in the overall Eastern Lites class points chase of the 2007 Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series, finishing 2nd this past weekend at Indianapolis’ RCA Dome.

With the effort Townley cut four-point chunk out of series points leader Ryan Morais’ overall lead, which now stands at only ten points (96-86) with two races remaining (Dallas and Detroit) on the ESX schedule.

“I’m a little disappointed, said Townley. “I had a crash in my heat race and my bike got bent up a bit, so thanks to my mechanic for getting that fixed. Overall I’d have liked to won an feel Pro Circuit and Kawasaki gave me the bike to do so, but in the end I’d have to settle for 2nd — even though we made some points up on 1st place.

Townley’s teammate, Darcy Lange, was in the best position to make up some points. Trailing ESX leader Morais by only six points heading into Indy, a win for Lange would have put him into the overall points lead. But a first-turn crash would dash the Canadian’s hopes and he’d wind up with a hard-fought 9th overall.

“I had a really good start and somebody went down in front of me and I hit him, said Lange. “Bent my clutch to the point where I couldn’t even use it for the rest of the race — 9th was the best we could do. But I tried hard and know that we’ll be back to race this weekend in Dallas.

Lange is only two points behind Townley, 86-84.

Next up for the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team is Round 13 of the 2007 Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series at Dallas’ Texas Stadium (March 31).
