Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Townley Back On Top Of AMA SX Lites Field With Impressive Daytona Win

CARLSBAD, Calif., (March 12, 2007) — Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Ben Townley got right back into the overall AMA Supercross Lites class Eastern Region title hunt with an impressive win this past Friday at Daytona International Speedway.

The highly-touted Kiwi and former GP Lites MX2 class champ overcame Andrew McFarlane on lap two of the 15-lap contest and led the race through the checkers, recording the fastest overall time in the main by 7/10ths of a second over factory Honda rider Thomas Hahn.

With the effort Townley thrust himself right back into title contention, having previously come away from the Eastern Region Lites opener in Atlanta with zero points. As it stands Townley is in 3rd place overall with 50 points (two wins), two points behind teammate Darcy Lange and six points out of first place overall (Ryan Morais).

“Everything came together very well for us at Daytona, said Townley. “I’d like to credit the entire Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team with the win. The course was rough and got more difficult as the evening progressed and my KX250F did an excellent job in helping me get out front and stay there through the end.

Sixth place overall went to Lange, who qualified 7th out of the first heat race to make the main. Lange started in 8th place and moved up to as high as 5th before coming in at 6th overall.

Next up for the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team is Round 11 of the 2007 Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series at Orlando’s Citrus Bowl (March 17).
