Monster Energy’s Ricky Carmichael 2nd @ Daytona, Last Chance To See Him Race SX Is This Weekend!

CARLSBAD, Calif., (March 12, 2007) — Monster Energy-backed Ricky Carmichael, the ‘winningest’ motocross racer of all time and defending Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series champion, put on a great show for his home state fans in Florida this past Friday, posting a well-deserved 2nd overall in the AMA Supercross class at Daytona International Speedway.

Carmichael, who’s won the Daytona round a record five times and was the defending champ at the race, didn’t quite get the start he wanted (in the main and his heat race) and found himself in 5th place after the main event’s first lap.

RC would mount a spirited charge despite the difficult track layout on the infield of the hallowed NASCAR facility, getting past defending Western Lites class champion Grant Langston, veteran Kyle Lewis and longtime rival Kevin Windham to make it up to 2nd place by lap four. Unfortunately for Carmichael fellow Monster Energy-backed racer James Stewart had got out to the lead early and put some distance between himself and part-time supercross racer Carmichael.

“It’s been an amazing ride, said Carmichael from the podium. “To win here five times in front of you guys has just been amazing. You know, every dog has its day and my day is getting thin, but I think I’m pretty good making the riders work.

Those riders included rival Chad Reed, the 2004 supercross champion, who wasn’t able to catch Carmichael on the highly technical Daytona track.

Carmichael’s Monster Energy-backed Makita/Suzuki teammate Ivan Tedesco raced to a 6th place finish at Daytona following a 12th place start. Tedesco’s in 7th place overall, 20 points out of the top five — and will gain on that spot quickly as Carmichael (5th overall) finishes up the supercross season this weekend in Orlando.

Next up for RC and Ivan is this weekend’s running of the Orlando Supercross at the Citrus Bow, Round 11 of the 2007 Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series.
