The expansion of the Muscle Milk TWMX Race Series into Northern California continued on, as we trekked back up the Five and stopped at Livermore’s Club Moto for round three of the Spring Cup. The Alameda County course is unique, to say the least, because of the black sand brought into the facility. Club Moto’s layout is carved into the side of a hill and the distinct soil gives a drastic contrast to the grass that surrounds it. All of these components create a track that had us itching to ride, but instead we put together another successful round of our five race series.
We were not the only ones to make the drive for the event. ONE Industries used this race as the launch of their NorCal tour and had their massive rig with the 2013 Spring line on display. Bell Helmets, a more local supporter of the Muscle Milk TWMX Race Series, came over from the Bay Area with a van full of all-new Moto-9s for riders to demo on the track. They took their participation one step further with a raffle and awarded mini racer Tracer Borden with a Moto-9 of his choice. Congrats, Tracer.
When practice concluded just before 9AM, the Club Moto track crew used the extra time for last-minute prep which allowed racing to run non-stop throughout the day. 34 classes spread over 14 motos allowed riders of all sizes and skill levels to take to the track and compete for trophies, shirts, Kickstart 4 DVDs, and ONE Industries hats. There were a number of victors in every class, but a handful in particular stood out above the rest. Japan’s Haruki Segawa trounced both the 65cc 9-11 and Open age divisons with four moto wins on the day. Segawa put his KTM 65SX through the wringer as he launched over nearly every obstacle on the course.
Tyler Johnson did likewise aboard his Kawasaki KX85 in both the 85cc 12-13 and SuperMini ranks, and showed unrivaled style in the mini classes while doing so. Johnson whipped his machine over the massive tabletops with ease and wheelied through the rollers to sweep both classes. Bruno Mordea represented the two-stroke faithful with his wins in the Schoolboy and Intermediate 250 class aboard a Kawasaki KX250. Kyle Tigert put on a riding clinic in the 450 Pro and Open Pro motos and he ran his Honda CRF450R to its limits to score all four moto wins.
The 2013 Muscle Milk TWMX Race Series NorCal Spring Cup is coming to an end, as we end the championship with a double-header weekend at 408MX. For more from Club Moto, browse through the numerous galleries and check out the overall results at http://motocross.transworld.net/twmxrs/results/.
