Historic Perris Raceway, the oldest motocross track in California, was host to the second round of the 2013 Muscle Milk TWMX Race Series So.Cal. Spring Cup. The early morning hours started out on the chilly side, but Southern California has a way of turning that strange weather into a perfect sunny day for racing, which is exactly how it went this weekend.

Starting with the Spring Cup and continuing on with every following Cup, racing took place simultaneously on both the “amateur” and “expert” tracks, which made for a quicker turn-around between motos and allowed the day to be much shorter when compared to passed rounds.

Vendor row was stocked with the likes of EKS Brand Goggles, etnies, One Industries, Asterisk, Yamaha, and One Industries. The graphics brand kept the field covered with stickers while etnies had some of their new kicks on display. The EKS Brand Goggle Family was on hand and kept everyone dialed with new lenses, tear-offs, and goggles, while Asterisk Knee Braces had their all-new Ultra Cell braces on display. Yamaha, the official motorcycle manufacturer of the Muscle Milk TWMX Race Series, has been a fixture at every round and will be giving away a 2013 PW50, a generator and a canopy all at the end of the Spring Cup series!

The Asterisk Knee Brace crew was kind enough to bring out some of their new Cell Knee Braces for this weekend’s racers to check out.

Yamaha is going big with their PW50, generator and canopy giveaway at the end of the Spring Cup Series.

As for the racing, the action was intense, to say the least. The 250 Novice class was so stacked that it had to be divided into two different gates in the same moto. The top riders from each gate drop would then advance to moto 14, which was added to the race schedule line-up for this specific purpose. A total of 45 riders lined up at the “main event,” where Josh Briggs crossed the finish line in first. Cody Baker and Desmond Spears topped the field in their respective Intermediate classes. Each rider finished with a clean sweep of 1-1 in 250 and 450 Intermediate. As for the blazing fast Pro classes, Kyle Wolack, Mitch Van De Mortel and Shawn Maffenbeier each took moto victories. Wolack finished 3-1 for the overall in 450A while Maffenbeier scored a 2-2 for second. In Pro Open, Van De Mortel just edged out the overall with a 2-1 with Maffenbeier finishing in a close second place with a 1-2.

250 Intermediate was completely swept by Desmond Spears aboard his 2-stroke. Music to our ears when this kid was out on the track.

Mitch Van De Mortel was absolutely flying this weekend. Mitch won the Pro Open class with a 2-1 finish just ahead of Shawn Maffenbeier. The pair had some incredibly intense battles.

We hope to see you at round three of the Muscle Milk TWMX Race Series Spring Cup, which will be held this weekend, April 14th, at San Bernardino’s own Glen Helen Raceway.
