Team Ready To Be A Contender In 2006

Corona, Calif., (December 28, 2005) ¿ Entering its third season, with increased support and a fresh new image, team is moving forward in its ultimate quest for an AMA Championship. Building on the pre-existing Team foundation, it has been a hectic off-season, which has included the relocation of the team to its new 11,000 square feet race facility headquartered in Corona, California which will also house the MDK/ Honda team featuring Nick Wey.

“We are very excited to be partnering with MDK Motorsports and the opportunities this will present to MotoSport for the long term,” says team owner and president of, Bill Butcher. “We are very pleased with the progress the team has made over the winter in a variety of areas including our rider lineup and level of our equipment. We are looking forward to debuting a complete new look and launching the most competitive team yet at the first round of the AMA/AMP’D Mobile Supercross Series.”

Mark Kvamme, owner of new team sponsor MDK, says he’s excited about the opportunities this sponsorship presents.

The Honda team will debut on January 7 in Anaheim, California, at round one of the AMA 125cc Western Regional Supercross Series with riders Danny Smith and Paul Carpenter. Danny Smith is a former 125cc National winner and has finished as high as third in a 125cc Supercross Championship (2004, 125cc East). Carpenter is a former multi-time Four-Stroke National Champion for Honda.

“We are very fortunate to have been able to acquire the experience and expertise of both Danny and Paul for the 2006 season,” says team managing director, and former Team Kawasaki team manager, Mark Johnson. “Their years of experience has significantly helped and guided our off season testing in a very positive direction.”

From there, the team will head to the AMA 125cc Eastern Regional Supercross Series beginning in St. Louis, Missouri, on February 18, with riders Kelly Smith and Bobby Kiniry. Kelly Smith is also a former multi-time Four-Stroke National Champion, and Kiniry is coming off of a very strong showing at the 2005 US Open.

“Adding Kelly and Bob to the MotoSport roster has again been a big boost to the team,” says Johnson. “Kelly being the seasoned veteran and Bob looking to make his mark as the young up and comer gives us a perfect balance to produce results this year comments Johnson.”

Johnson is excited about the new opportunities 2006 will present.

“With a significant increase in support from our major partners MotoSport, MDK, MSR and American Honda, this team will work from a solid foundation in 2006,” says Johnson. “Coupled with the technical expertise of Pro Circuit Racing, RG3 Suspension and Dunlop tires, we have most certainly put ourselves in a position of strength which will allow us to compete for podium positions each week in the AMA Lites class.”

In addition to MDK and MSR being added as title sponsors, the Honda team will be backed by Pro Circuit, RG3 Suspension, Gaerne Boots, Acerbis, ASV, Hinson, Pivot Works, Renthal, Honda Pro Oils and Chemicals, Factory Effex, Hot Rods, Light Speed, SixSixOne, Spy Goggles, VP Racing Fuels, Twin-Air and Dunlop tires for the 2006 season.
