THQ World Supercross GP/AMA Supercross Series Shatters California Attendance Record

AURORA (February 14, 2003) – THQ World Supercross GP/AMA Supercross Series brought in 290,412 fans during the six races held on the west coast. Averaging 48,402 fans per event, THQ World Supercross GP/AMA Supercross Series sold out Edison International Field in Anaheim, Calif., and entertained the season’s largest crowd of 67,102 at San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium.

“While the popularity of supercross is going global at a rapid pace, domestically we just had the most fans attend our California races in the 29-year history of the sport with 241,967 in attendance,” said Mark Abernethy, senior director of marketing, motorcycles. Two-time defending supercross champion Ricky Carmichael left the west coast with a four-point lead over Yamaha’s Chad Reed in the 250cc AMA Supercross Series. Reed leads the THQ World Supercross GP Series by 15 points over David Vuillemin. Sophomore James Stewart, who is riding in his second season of supercross, has a commanding 31-point lead over defending champion Travis Preston in the 125cc West AMA Supercross Series standings.
