What started off with six riders was quickly chopped down to two. Guys like Beau Bamburg, Miles Richmond, and Todd Potter all took their shots, but the final two standing well beyond the 30 foot mark were Step Up veterans Mat Buyten and Ronnie Renner. With the crowd on its feet, the bar was raised to 33.5 feet and that would be to be the breaking point. Neither rider cleared the cross beam on the first attempt. But for the second time around Buyten showed that he has been practicing, making the huge leap, while Renner caught the bar on the way up. This effectively handed Buyten X Games Gold.
