Jon Ames will not race the 2017 Red Bull Straight Rhythm in the Two-Stroke Shootout after breaking his femur on Friday night in a practice crash. Per people that saw the crash, Ames shorted the finish line double and slammed into the face of the landing. He was taken to a nearby hospital for further evaluation. Ames was set to ride on a JMC Motorsports tuned Husqvarna TC 250 in the new division of the Red Bull Straight Rhythm.
With Ames and Chad Reed out, Red Bull enlisted Tevin Tapia as a last-minute fill-in rider to set the field with eight competitors in the Two-Stroke Shootout. Unfortunately, Tapia tweaked his ankle in the Saturday morning practice session and will make a race-time decision on racing or not.
