The last few weeks have been tough for Justin Barcia. First was the scary incident during timed qualifying at the 2017 Washougal MX that forced a red flag on the session and sent the AutoTrader.com/Monster Energy/Toyota/JGRMX/Suzuki rider to the hospital due to complaints of pain in his neck. He was released later in the day. Then came a run-in with a car during a road bicycle ride that resulted in road rash on his legs. Amid all of this, Barcia will line up this coming weekend for the 2017 Unadilla MX, the tenth round of the 2017 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship.
With four missed motos this summer (he was sidelined with a concussion during practice at the 2017 High Point MX) Barcia is currently eleventh overall in the championship standings. News of his future has been uncertain in recent weeks, as he is coming to the end of his current contract with the North Carolina-based JGRMX squad and no sign of an extension or separation is clear.
