The first rounds of the 2018 Monster Energy Supercross Series did not go the way Dean Wilson anticipated, as the Rockstar Energy Racing Husqvarna rider crashed in his Heat Race at the opening round and the resulting injuries (contusion to the shoulder, a strained rotator cuff, bone and muscle bruising, and a sprained wrist) forced him to sit out the second round one week later in Houston. We spoke with Wilson at the Texas round and he told us that the progress he made through therapy had helped tremendously, but it was not enough that he felt comfortable at a race pace.
Earlier this week Wilson was able to return to a somewhat normal riding routine with practice laps on the team’s private Supercross practice track and at Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park. This is a massive improvement compared to the week prior when Wilson was only able to ride a small turn track and attempted to ride the Friday press day session.
We’ve reached out to the Rockstar Energy Racing Husqvarna team for an update Wilson’s status for the weekend on Thursday morning. The team said the decision for Wilson to race or not will be made on Friday.
UPDATE JANUARY 19TH 3:30 PM | Wilson rode the full duration of the Friday press day sessions and looked comfortable on the track. He will line up to race on Saturday.
