Last week, we stopped by The Fasthouse headquarters to see how Kenny Alexander and the crew were doing in preparation for Red Bull A Day In The Dirt 19, held this past Thanksgiving weekend at Glen Helen Raceway Park. In addition to promoting the legendary SoCal event, The Fasthouse has grown into a complete brand in itself in recent years, offering a full line of motocross and off-road riding apparel, casual wear, and other various accessories. The following interview with Alexander is transcribed from a Facebook Live broadcast that we did, as we know not everyone can watch a video during work hours.

Kenny, a little over two years ago, we were sitting down in a restaurant having a conversation and I asked, “Kenny, what is The Fasthouse?” and you couldn’t give me a definitive answer. Are you any closer to an answer now?

No… our original business plan was terrible, but ultimately we do it from the heart. We go about this to have fun, and the coolest things end up coming out of this place. It’s something different, which is exactly what we're aiming for. We’re making full sets of gear, now after starting off with only a few jerseys, and before that it was only T-shirts! We’ve been at this for quite a while, now, but everyone seems to think we popped up overnight. It’s been a labor of love and I think what makes it cool is that we actually live it. We get the opportunity to work with some great companies, as well. We’ve been doing collaborations with 805 Beer, and now we’re doing some cool stuff with VonZipper and Bell Helmets. We’ve even been with Red Bull for going on 19 years now. We feel extremely fortunate to have teamed up with such great brands.

Out of every ADITD helmet, is it safe to say that your favorite is this year’s Bell Moto 9 Flex?

I can honestly say that it is. Scott Dixon is one of our artists and he’s got a great feel for things. We talked about it for a couple of weeks and this is what we came up with, and then we sent it to Chris Woods to paint one up for us. It’s something special and we are extremely happy that Bell helmets came on board this year. And the same goes for VonZipper, as well. We just did a collaboration with them on a pair of goggles that turned out really cool.

Yeah, and even through some of their dealers.

So this is where the magic happens when someone places an order online?

This is where we do our online orders. We package everything here and then ship everything to our warehouse in Redlands where it is then distributed to stores. Our crew has been banging out anywhere from 30-50 jerseys a day with printing since everyone customizes their own stuff. We even carry a lot of our past products because we feel that our stuff never gets old. We like to think of it as being timeless.

There’s a lot of memorabilia here in The Fasthouse, but what’s your favorite?

Danny Magoo’s helmet from the USGP that Troy Lee painted. I literally just got chills talking about it. Danny was a huge A Day In The Dirt fan that attended the event every year. We are extremely honored to have some of his old stuff. I mean if you had a piece of duct tape on top of your helmet like he always did then you were a bad ass. It’s funny you say that because we actually recreated the duct tape look on a helmet a few years back with Troy Lee. We’ve been collecting a lot of vintage memorabilia from racers, and we are very fortunate to do so. We got a bunch of stuff from Danny "Magoo" Chandler and Kenny Zahrt. Those guys were the real deal!

It’s hard not to see someone wearing Fasthouse gear at any local track. How does that feel when you see people wearing Fasthouse that are not in your immediate group of friends?

Yeah, that makes us proud! That tells us that they’re feeling the same way we're feeling. We like to mix it up a little bit so that you can create your own style. I think our gear line has the ability to have almost 60 different combinations of mix and match pants, jerseys and gloves. I think that’s what makes our stuff special because you can go out and buy a black pair of pants with your choice of 12 different jerseys. I think that’s what people like so much; the fact that they can create their own style.

I see lots of 805 Beer here in the office, thanks to your association with the brand. What is the company policy here at The Fasthouse on drinking during work hours?

(Laughs) Anytime after 3-3:30 in the afternoon, they’re allowed to crack one open. We have a lot of people that drop in, so it's a good thing to have handy as you shoot the shit and talk war stories. It’s fun, man.

What are your plans for the international market?

We are now distributing in Australia and the UK will be receiving products from us shortly. We are going to worldwide!
