The start of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross series each year marks the beginning of many young riders professional careers. Some have made their debut with enough hype that it borders on overwhelming, while other rookies fly well under the radar. This year, five racers lined up at the 2018 Hangtown Motocross who, barring injury, will compete in all 24 motos this summer. Get to know them better below…

Enzo Lopes
Age: 18
From: Brazil

What was your first Hangtown experience like?
Well, it was pretty good! I'm still living my dream right now to be on a factory ride being from another country. I got fifteenth overall. In the first moto I got thirteenth, which was good, and then in the second moto I was in eleventh, but I crashed. Then at about 20 minutes in I got pretty tired. I got fifteenth in the second moto for fifteenth overall. It's not bad, but I can do more than that so we'll start building up from there.

What are your goals for this season?
My goal is to get better each and every moto. I want to get inside the top 10 and I know have the speed that it takes, I'm just trying to build up. I know I can run that pace, it's just a matter of time.

Are there any tracks in particular that you're looking forward to racing this year?
I mean, I've watched videos of all the tracks, but Millville and RedBud are probably my favorite ones. Most of them are pretty cool. I'm stoked to have this opportunity to ride on these tracks.

What was your first Hangtown experience like?
It was pretty cool to be in that situation that you've looked forward to for so long. Now that I feel like I belong here, coming into these next few races I look forward to continuing to learn and keep the ball rolling.

What are your goals for this season?
My goal is just to build every weekend and get better. At the end of the year, I want to be a contender. I'm just going to do my best every single race.

Are there any tracks in particular that you're looking forward to racing this year?
There are a few on the East Coast. RedBud obviously has a lot of excitement surrounding it every year. Southwick would probably be the one that I'm most looking forward to because it's sandy and I'm from Florida which is all sand. I'm excited for all of them and I've been to a few, but not all of them. Every race is something new and it's awesome.

Age: 16
From: Coalville, UT

What was your first Hangtown experience like?
It's a pretty big jump from the amateurs to the pros and just to get the experience with those guys - especially past champions in Supercross and outdoors - and get a sixth place in my moto is a good learning experience. It definitely helped me a lot.

What are your goals for this season?
I want to stay healthy for the whole season, race every race, and finish in the top 10 in every moto.

Are there any tracks in particular that you're looking forward to racing this year?
Mostly Southwick and Thunder Valley. A lot of my family members live near Thunder Valley so it'll be pretty cool. I'm pretty excited to race Southwick in the sand.

Age: 20
From: Long Island, NY

What was your first Hangtown experience like?
It was an all-new track at Hangtown for me. I've been watching it over the years so I had a little bit of an idea of what it's like. It went good, I qualified well and rode well, I just think I need a little more intensity out there to hang it out up front.

What are your goals for this season?
I just want to be striving for the podium. I want to be on the box and be a podium guy this year. I know it's a longshot, but I have the speed and all that, I just need to get the experience in these long motos with these top guys. I'll keep plugging away. I got fifth at Hangtown and I'm from the East Coast so things will get more and more familiar for me. I should be warmed up by then and I'll try to do my best every weekend.

Are there any tracks in particular that you're looking forward to racing this year?
I'm a sand rider, so I'd have to say, Southwick. I can't wait for that one. They're all fun though. RedBud is always cool. I like all the East Coast tracks, but I'm excited for Southwick. That's the big one.

What was your first Hangtown experience like?
It's a lot different than amateurs. Way different. The track is way rougher and amateur races only last about 15 minutes, where this is obviously 30 plus two. I like it way better, it's kind of sick I guess [laughs].

What are your goals for this season?
I want to be healthy and strong throughout the whole season. I want to be in the top 10 in points, but I just have to keep my head down and keep digging.

Are there any tracks in particular that you're looking forward to racing this year?
I think the tracks I'll be happiest on are the ones we'll be racing out East. I'm not from California and this stuff is just way different. I'm used to ruts. I am really looking forward to Colorado, though.
