Phil Nicoletti

Phil Nicoletti’s signing to the JGRMX/Toyota/NFAB/Yamaha team for 2014 came with a few uncommon terms in motocross. First, Nicoletti would ride the exact same machines as full time racing teammates Josh Grant and Justin Brayton, albeit for only a select number of rounds indoors and out. This move by the team was perceived as a way to fill a spot should ether Grant or Brayton get injured through the year, all while keeping Nicoletti race-ready with a handful of guaranteed events and endless practice time in the Carolinas. With Brayton missing the first part of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, the team extended Nicoletti’s deal from the first three rounds (Glen Helen, Hangtown, Colorado) to now through round seven at Budds Creek.

What happens from there is up to team owner Coy Gibbs and manager Jeremy Albretch. Both have stated they are pleased with Nicoletti’s rides this season, but there is a chance he would return to the bench upon Brayton’s return regardless of the results. Should this happen, Nicoletti is apparently free to join another team or venture out on his own. Either move to keep Filthy Phil on the track would be wise, considering he is currently ranked 12th in the 450 championship standings.
