In between races, we took some time to browse our hard drives and look at photos taken throughout the year. We'll highlight each shot in a daily post, with the image sized to fit your computer screen or smartphone and described with a small backstory…

Last week at the GEICO Honda Supercross track, I found a spot in a rhythm section that I wanted to shoot from behind. A double, triple, double; the riders would scrub the last double and throw up a plume of dust as they slid off the face of the jump. Waiting there for them to come around took almost a minute each time, so I shot some other spots to kill time and keep myself entertained. Christian Craig’s riding coach David Vuillemin uses old dirt bike tires to mark the spot of the berms that he does not want his rider to ride above. Normally, he just lays the in the corner, but it seems that he had some spare time on his hands recently, as they were buried upright in the corners instead. Memories of being a kid at the Knott’s Berry Farm shooting gallery flashed through my head as I tried to capture RJ Hampshire in the center of one of the tires. I missed him on the first pass; but got him on the second. Not an exceptionally action-packed photo, I know, but it’s something different and I wanted to share…
