In between races, we took some time to browse our hard drives and look at photos taken throughout the year. We'll highlight each shot in a daily post, with the image sized to fit your computer screen or smartphone and described with a small backstory…
A few weeks ago, I flew to Clermont, Florida, to hang with a few racers for a couple of days; among them was Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Adam Cianciarulo. I met Adam at the World Mini Grand Prix back in 2008 when he was still on minis, and we’ve been buddies ever since. One of the first funny things he said to me during an interview was in response to the question, “Tell us something about yourself that no one really knows.” His answer? “I like miniature things. Like small motorcycle toys, or basset hounds. They have these little tiny legs. Yeah, I like basset hounds.”
As an adult, AC remains just as entertaining as ever, with a great sense of humor. In fact, when I shot portrait photos of him to go with his upcoming magazine feature, he kept pulling a fidget spinner from his pocket and striking a pose with the annoying little gadget. “Spinner life, bro,” seemed to be the phrase of the day.
It’s great to see AC finding his pace and delivering on all of the potential he showed as an amateur and early in his pro career. Injuries have plagued him for the past few seasons, but it seems that he has finally put that behind him. Future champ? I believe so.
