In between races, we took some time to browse our hard drives and look at photos taken throughout the year. We'll highlight each shot in a daily post, with the image sized to fit your computer screen or smartphone and described with a small backstory…

Here in America, the stars of the MXGP series often seem as far away as our favorite Hollywood actors. Perhaps it’s because we have grown accustomed to seeing the top AMA racers at all of our local tracks, or maybe it’s because the World Championship Series only visits the States once a year. No matter, when I was snapping photos of some of my friends flying over a blind jump at Cahuilla Creek a couple months ago I accidentally popped a photo of 2015 MXGP World Champion Romain Febvre as he jumped into my field of vision. At first, I was dismayed that it wasn’t my friend as I had expected, but when I looked at the image on my camera back and realized who it was the day took on a whole new dimension. With the MXGP of Leon in Mexico coming that next weekend, many of the World Championship regulars used the days approaching the event to train in SoCal before heading south of the border. All told, there were several other GP riders on hand at Cahuilla that day, including Russian Evgeny Bobryshev and American Thomas Covington, and it was a pleasure to get to watch them all in action on one of my favorite local tracks.
