In between races, we took some time to browse our hard drives and look at photos taken throughout the year. We'll highlight each shot in a daily post, with the image sized to fit your computer screen or smartphone and described with a small backstory…

This weekend, the All Japan National Championship will conclude at Sugo Race Land, near Sendai, Japan. This photo was shot at the series kickoff back in April, where 10-time National Champion Akira Narita began his campaign for a record-extending 11th National Championship. Barring disaster, it looks as if Narita will be crowned champion this weekend at Sugo, as he enjoys a near-40-point lead in the championship point standings.

In the United States, Narita is best known as the young Suzuki rider who nearly beat Travis Pastrana for a moto win at Mt. Morris aboard a RM125, or for his third-place finish in the mud at the Anaheim Supercross when 125cc two-strokes were still raced. In Japan, though, Narita is the greatest champion the country has ever seen. He’s won 10 premier class championships and has done so as both a factory rider and a privateer.   This weekend, Honda HRC’s Cole Seely is scheduled to compete at the Sugo finale and Japanese fans will no doubt be excited to see the American racer in action, but diehard fans will have their eyes on the number 982 Honda of Narita!
