Photo of the Day | Oct 19th 2015
Now that the offseason is here, we've got some time to browse our hard drives and look at photos taken throughout the years. We'll highlight each shot in a daily post, with the image sized to fit your computer screen or smartphone and described with a small backstory…
A couple weeks ago, my friends at Troy Lee Designs asked if I could help them out with a last-minute photo shoot of their team riders wearing the new official KTM-licensed riding gear. Seeing as how their video guy Masa Shirotani is one of my best friends and he’s the one who asked; of course I gladly agreed. The gear was officially debuted by Shane McElrath this weekend at the Monster Energy Cup, and I think that it’s some of the best-looking manufacturer-branded stuff I’ve seen in a long time. My earliest recollection of official manufacturer riding gear was the Hondaline TX-10 Sinisalo stuff that Mickey Dymond wore. The pants were made of a rough canvas material and had big foam panels sewn into the front of the thighs. Because Mickey was the champ and also had a sick riding style, I ordered up a set from the official Honda parts and accessories catalog. Since then, I can’t remember being too pumped on anything peddled by a manufacturer in its accessory catalog, especially since the trend of having a manufacturer name emblazoned down the legs of the pant and across the chest of the jersey has not been in fashion since the late 80s.
This new KTM TLD gear, though? Pretty slick, if I do say so myself. Maybe it’s because I’m a fat ass now and I tend to like dark-colored jerseys, but whatever…I need a set! It certainly won’t look as cool on my as my friend Jessy here, but a guy can hope, can’t he?
Also, I do realize that this is the second time I have chosen a photo of Nelson as my pick for Photo of the Day. Coincidence? Maybe…maybe not. It’s his first as lucky number 13, though!
