Corona, CA – Pro Taper rider Ryan Dungey returned to winning form this weekend at round 12 of the AMA/FIM Supercross Championship in Toronto, Canada. This marked the first win of the season for the defending champion, but with the title chase winding down it could not have came at a better time.
The Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider was fast from the first time he hit the Rogers Centre track. Dungey set the tone for the day when he topped the charts in the first round of timed qualifying. The second round times proved to be slightly faster, bumping Ryan's 53.3 to the fourth position at the conclusion of qualifying.
When the night show began, Dungey jumped out front of his heat race and led 7 out of 8 laps in route to a second place finish. With a great gate pick for the main event, Ryan rounded out the first lap with the lead. Once out front he looked like the Dungey of 2010, lapping all the way up to sixth place and posting his fastest lap time on lap 18. Despite an uncharacteristic off-track excursion, Dungey held on to the lead and notched his first win since earning the number one plate.
With five rounds of racing left, this win moves Ryan to within eight points of the championship points lead.
