PHOENIX, AZ (January 16, 2012) – The Rockstar Energy Racing teams had a lot to celebrate after Saturday night's round two of the 2012 AMA/FIM Supercross Championship Series at Chase Field in Phoenix, AZ. The Rockstar Energy Racing and Star Valli Yamaha teams both carded top-10 finishes in Supercross Lites, while Rockstar's Brett Metcalfe picked up a top-10 result in the premier Supercross class.

Rockstar Energy Racing's Jason Anderson started the night with an impressive third-place result in his heat race and then followed that up with a seventh-place finish in the 15-lap Supercross Lites main event. Rockstar Energy Racing teammate Martin Davalos had a get-off in his heat race but went on to win the LCQ. Unfortunately, he struggled with some issues during the main and was unable to finish the race.

"Phoenix was a good race for me," said Rockstar Energy Racing's Anderson. "I got a good start in my heat race and ended up third. In the main, I struggled at the start but I ended up seventh. Hopefully, I'll improve on that next week. But I'm really happy with where we're at, and I feel like the things I need to work on can be found in the next week. I'm excited about racing at Dodger Stadium next weekend and hopefully, it will be another good weekend for us."

For the Star Valli Yamaha team, Nico Izzi overcame a crash in his practice sessions to finish fourth in his heat race, and then an impressive eighth in the Supercross Lites main event.

"I was spitting up some blood," admitted Izzi, "but I got checked out and decided to come back and race. I had a decent heat – I rode smart and smooth, and that's what I wanted to do. In the main, I didn't get a great start but I just kept trying to move forward. Now, I'm looking forward to racing at Dodger Stadium next weekend, so I'm going to go home and work on my weaknesses."

Rounding out the Star Valli Yamaha Supercross Lites effort was Ryan Sipes, who was battling for a transfer spot in the LCQ when he came together with another rider and was forced to drop out; and Gareth Swanepoel, who made the main and finished 17th. In the Supercross class, neither Star Valli Yamaha riders Austin Stroupe nor Ryan Morais raced the main event.

Rockstar Energy's Brett Metcalfe had a very strong showing in the Supercross class, in spite of suffering from a chest cold. The Australian rider finished ninth in the 20-lap main event after picking up a sixth-place finish in his heat race. Rockstar's Nick Wey got the win in the Supercross class LCQ, but had a run-in with another rider at the start of the main event and was forced to retire early.

"I came into Phoenix feeling a little more confident even though I was a little under the weather this weekend," said Metcalfe. "In qualifying, I got an awesome start and I came through the heat race and ended up sixth. In the main event I tried as hard as I could; about halfway, I started getting passed but I tried to hang tough and hold down a top-10. Now, I'm looking forward to having another solid week on the bike and moving up in the field at Dodger Stadium."

The next event for the Rockstar Energy Racing teams is the third round of the 2012 AMA/FIM Supercross Championship on Saturday, January 21st, at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, CA.
