Another successful weekend of racing is in the books, as we headed up to Sunrise MX for the penultimate round of the Terra Firma Race Series presented by SPY. Although the weather wasn’t exactly ideal for anyone – thanks to the triple digit temperatures – racers put that aside and geared up for battle because points are always at stake.
This weekend, Austin Lightcap earned himself the SPY Breakaway Rider award for his unrelenting performance in moto one of 250 Beginner. Lightcap moved into the early lead and went on to break away from the rest of the pack for the moto win. Congrats Austin!
Dirt Rider Magazine’s Kris Keefer came out to round four and put on a clinic in the pro classes. Race six was scheduled for the 450 Pro and 450 Intermediate racers, and when the gate dropped for moto two it was Matt Cerami (450 Int.) and Keefer (450 Pro) out front. A great battle ensued between the two as they made multiple passes on each other, but it was Keefer who finished out front. Keefer took the checkered flag and immediately rode back to the starting gate for race seven; 30+ Pro. Keeper was dominant anytime he was on the track, and he went home with overall wins in 450 Pro and 30+ Pro.
Matt Cermai has become a frequent sight at the Terra Firma Race Series as of late, and he’s made his impression felt by showcasing a lot of speed, smart riding and a killer style. The most impressive part though, is that he can back it all up with results. Cerami went on to win every moto that he lined up for ultimately going home with a total of four moto wins and overalls in 450 Intermediate and Open (Non-Pro).
Carson Carr was another rider that showed a lot of speed this weekend, but more often than not he found himself in a a less than ideal position for a race win. Carr lined up for 250 and 450 Intermediate, and after a few great battles with Matt Bynum in 250B he was able to walk away with a moto win and the overall. Once 450 Intermediate was set to hit the track, Carr again found himself behind the leaders, but he put his head down and went to work to finish in third overall.
Thanks to all who joined us at Sunrise MX for the fourth round of the Terra Firma Race Series presented by SPY, and we look forward to lining up with you all again at Glen Helen for the fifth and final round on August 28th.
