The Red Plate Remains With Rockstar Energy Racing’s Davi Millsaps
Rockstar Energy Racing’s Davi Millsaps took 3rd in the 450 main event in Phoenix on Saturday and retains the red plate as series points leader.
Throughout practice DM18 was not as comfortable as he had been the previous week in California. As the gate dropped for his heat race he put the days events behind him and finished a solid 2nd, giving him a good gate pick going into the main. As the group exited turn one in the main event, Millsaps missed getting the holeshot by a mere few inches. Davi fought hard the entire race and continued to pursue the leaders. After a long 20 laps, Millsaps finished in 3rd. He carries the red plate and a six point lead as the series moves back to Anaheim where he rode so well one week ago.
“For how bad the day was, coming out and establishing a third was good.If I can make these days my worst and my best days last weekend, I’ll be good,” said Davi Millsaps.
Ryan Sipes had a good start in his heat and rode to a strong 3rd place finish. After a bad start in the main event, Sipes worked his way back up to 4th position and eventually finished the round in 7th. Sitting 4th in overall points, Sipes is going into the next round hungry for a podium. “It is sort of a bummer, but I can’t be bummed cause I felt like rode well. Working my way up and passing guys and I got [Cole] Seely for fourth with two laps to go. I felt like I needed to guard my line and that let him come up and get close. Then we hit in the corner and I was forced to case the double and get passed by a couple more guys. So I went from fourth to seventh in a two straights. But like I said, I rode well and all we can do is come in ready for next weekend, ” said Ryan Sipes afterwards.
Jason Anderson looked great all day in practice and was poised for another impressive evening. Turn one of his heat race, Anderson was clipped and ejected from his bike. Luckily he was unharmed but he was unable to make up the lost time and was forced into LCQ. A slight mistake in LCQ kept him from qualifying for the main event. A disappointing night for Anderson but he did end the night 100% healthy and is heading into round 3 strong and determined. “Rough weekend, had a crash in the heat, then I wound up endoing in the LCQ all by myself. So not a good night. For sure we’ll improve on that next week and hopefully be on the box,” reflected Jason Anderson.
Next weekend the team heads back to Anaheim for round 3 of the series. Davi Millsaps will be once again fighting to retain the red plate on the track where he first earned it. Anderson and Sipes will be looking for a 250 podium.
