Earlier this year at the 2018 Atlanta Supercross, we were tipped off about the possibility that Thomas Covington would race in the United States in 2019 and beyond with the Rockstar Energy Racing Husqvarna team. The American racer had brushed off multiple questions about the topic when asked by European media through the first part of the 2018 Monster Energy FIM Motocross World Championship, but after taking the MX2 Qualifying Moto win at the 2018 MXGP of France over the weekend, Covington finally stated that he will return to the United States in 2019 to race Supercross and motocross for the Rockstar Energy Racing Husqvarna team in the 250 class.

Compared to other American racers Covington’s career path has been unorthodox, as his chance to race just a handful of rounds in the MXGP series ultimately turned into a full-time residence in Europe with Kawasaki and Husqvarna’s factory racing teams and multiple race wins.

Covington is currently ranked eighth in the MX2 championship standings, despite racing with a knee injury.
