Back in 2009 the AMA considered allowing 250cc two-strokes to compete in the 250 class. Intrigued by the possibilities, we recruited West Coast 250 Supercross Champion Jason Lawrence and Pro-Tec Yamaha’s Travis Baker to help us compare on contrast the two. We brought a brand new Yamaha YZ250 and a YZ250F out to Perris Raceway with us, and tested them with and without aftermarket exhaust systems, clocking lap times and collecting rider impressions. The results were shocking, as J-Law was significantly faster on the two-stroke. Later that day, we got a call from MX Sports inquiring about our findings, and we suspect that they may have played a part in the eventual rule dismissal. Damn! We should have lied!
