Dane Morales is the points leader in the 9-12 85 class in the Terra Firma Series, and although he had a little bad luck by way of a flat tire at LACR, we’re betting on the KTM rider for the big trophy at the series’ end. We caught up with the second-generation racer after the day was done.

You’re a regular mini racer in our series and were the Terra Firma series points leader. It seems like you had some bad luck today…

Yeah, today I got a flat tire on my last on the last two laps, so I went over the bars and the bike landed on me, but I’ll be fine.

You family owns ASV Inventions, which makes a lot of cool products. What’s it like to be in an industry family?

It’s really cool, we get to go in the pits at Supercross and we get to go to all these ride days, it’s really fun. Sometimes I get to work for my dad’s company.

What’s the coolest product in your opinion that ASV makes?

I think our coolest product is our newest lever, the F4. I really like the feel and the color of the F3 that we used to make and then we came out with the C6, which had a dial adjuster to bring the lever in and out as you rode, and then the F4 was kind of a mix of them, and I really like it.

Do you ever help test stuff, or have you ever helped with the ideas?

Sometimes I help my dad with ideas, we just joke around about a bunch of different kinds of products that we could make and a few times, I’ve been the first one to use a new lever before it comes out, like the F4.

How long have you been racing and what led you to choose motocross?

I’ve been racing since I was four years old. I used to do MX Kids and a bunch of other fun stuff and then I got into it seriously when I was around five or six. Then I tried to go to Loretta’s when I was seven and I missed it by a few spots. I chose motocross because my dad has always been a motocrosser. I used to do BMX cause he was into that too. My dad owning a motocross company with me being there all the time, it really made me love this sport.

Do you participate in any other sports or hobbies?

I pretty much do everything with wheels, I do BMX, skateboard, and scooters. I surf a lot and I mainly love hanging out with my family.

How seriously do you take your racing?

I like to take my racing very seriously, sometimes I’m aggressive, there are other days where I’m not so aggressive and just there to have fun. When it comes to big races, I just put my head in the game and don’t think about anything else.

What are your favorite types of tracks and track obstacles?

I really like going over big jumps, just flying for a while. My favorite track is probably Milestone because it is just really fast and you’re on the gas a lot there, not to mention all those big jumps.

At the TransWorld race series we try to offer a better racing experience, what do you think of our events?

I really like the TransWorld series, they’re always so nice to me and the racing is awesome, there is always big turnouts. Craig is just amazing.

What is your favorite thing about being a motocross racer?

My favorite thing about being a motocrosser is I get to hang out with everybody else that does motocross and I just have a place that I fit in.

What would you rather do, holeshot a race and run away or come from behind to win?

I really like coming from behind, I’ve done that a lot. Today I even did that and I’ve actually won big races doing that.

So tell me about your bike and why you chose it, and what have you done to make it work well for you?

Well, I just switched to KTM not too long ago because I’ve heard a lot of good things about it. The KTMs are super fast and super awesome. Sometimes we have problems with it, but we get through them. The supermini I just got not too long ago is really fast, but I still got to get used to it. Sometimes we switch with suspension, or whatever we have problems with, sometimes it’s me and I need to switch up my riding style a little bit, but most of the time the bike is just 100% perfect.
