One of the coolest parts of the TWMX Race Series is watching kids get their first taste of racing in the mini classes. Mike Sleeter is a former Supercross and Motocross pro with a long history of test riding for KTM, Answer Racing, 100% and more, and he is the proud dad to two young boys; Mason and Noah. At the Glen Helen Raceway series finale of the West Coast Open Series presented by AMP Energy, seven-year-old Mason made his racing debut aboard his KTM 50 and we couldn’t have been prouder.

We heard today was your first race, how did it go?

It went good! I got fifth and I got a bad start in my first race, but in the second moto, I got very good start. I had lots of fun and I can’t for my next race.

What made you want to start riding?

Because my dad rides and I really wanted to ride like him.

Who is your biggest influence?

My dad and Uncle Dan Reardon!

How long have you been riding?

Since I was four, and I’m seven now.

Do you play any other sports or have any hobbies?

I play baseball and I like BMX racing. I also love playing with LEGOs!

Do you want to just race for fun or do you have bigger aspirations?

I wanna be a pro! I practice lots just like a pro.

What is your favorite track?

My favorite tracks are Cahuilla Creek MX and Lake Elsinore MX.

What is your favorite thing about being a motocross racer?

My friends coming to watch me, and jumping, and getting the holeshot.

Tell me about your bike and why you chose it.

I really wanted a KTM 50 because my friend had a KTM 50. I wanted to ride it for a second and after I did, I said, “Dad! Can I have a KTM 50 too?” Then Santa brought me my bike on Christmas! I put shiny stuff on it from Nihilo! They sent me parts for my bike and Pro Taper bars! I like those Pro Taper bars.
