The offseason announcements continue to come. On September 5th, the AutoTrader/Yoshimura/Suzuki Factory Racing team confirmed that they had signed a contract extension that will keep Weston Peick under their awning for the 2019 Monster Energy Supercross Series and Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship. This will mark year five of Peick’s time with the North Carolina-based team, a partnership that pulled Peick out of the privateer levels and has helped him achieve career-best results.
Even with this confirmation, the AutoTrader/Yoshimura/Suzuki Factory Racing roster for 2019 has quite a few open spots as Peick, Alex Martin, and Justin Hill are the only three riders with confirmed contracts for next year. We talked with Team Manager Jeremy Albretch at the 2018 Ironman Motocross round a few weeks back and it sounds like the team will again field four 250 class riders for Supercross (two on each coast) and then trim the 250 program down to two riders for the Nationals (Alex Martin has a confirmed place both indoors and outdoors).
The press release for Peick’s extension is posted in full below…
The Autotrader/Yoshimura/Suzuki Factory Racing Team is pleased to announce that Weston Peick will remain with the team for the 2019 season. One of the most consistent and hardworking riders in the sport, Peick will return for his fifth year with the factory program.
The Menifee, California native continues to hone his craft and climb the ladder in what will be his 11 th year on the professional circuit. Riding most of the year with torn tendons in his hand, the 27-year-old finished sixth overall in the Monster Energy AMA Supercross standings. "The Viking" strung together 11 consecutive top-ten overall finishes during the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, before missing the final round due to hand surgery. With the injury behind him, Peick expects to better than ever in 2019.
"I'm excited to continue this partnership," stated Peick. "The team has been like a family to me ever since the first day I signed with them. Being able to surround myself with such a great group of professionals has been an awesome experience. I'm looking forward to improving my results next year and having another season on the Suzuki RM-Z450. Development has gone very well, and we will be ahead of the game heading into the Anaheim Supercross opener."
Autotrader/Yoshimura/Suzuki Factory Racing team manager Jeremy Albrecht is happy to continue working with Peick. "Weston has been great for us. He is a team player, and also very tough. I appreciate that he rode through the pain of an injured hand this year and gave it his all. He produced good results when other riders in that same situation probably would have thrown in the towel. Weston also really gels well with the Suzuki RM-Z450. There's great synergy with that pairing."
