In between races, we took some time to browse our hard drives and look at photos taken throughout the year. We'll highlight each shot in a daily post, with the image sized to fit your computer screen or smartphone and described with a small backstory…
The 2017 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship is officially in the history books with Rockstar Energy Racing Husqvarna's Zach Osborne taking the 250cc championship and Monster Energy Kawasaki's Eli Tomac taking the premier class championship. The 2017 racing season – not just outdoors – was arguably one of the most exciting years in motocross racing, and we're happy to have witnessed it all happen firsthand. This year was seemingly filled with more drama and career-firsts than ever before, and one rider that made the final round count was Yamalube/Star Racing/Yamaha's Colt Nichols.
This was the Oklahoma native's sophomore year in the 250cc outdoor motocross championship, and after a top five and a handful of top 10s throughout the outdoor season, the #39 landed a career-best finish at the series finale with a third place podium finish. Nichols had a very unorthodox journey to the professional ranks, so to see him achieve something like that is very exciting; especially since he's one of the nicest guys in the pits. However, that kind of result from the Star Racing athlete was only inevitable in my eyes. Congrats, Colt!
