In between races, we took some time to browse our hard drives and look at photos taken throughout the year. We’ll highlight each shot in a daily post, with the image sized to fit your computer screen or smartphone and described with a small backstory...
The road to recovery for Team Honda HRC's Ken Roczen has been nothing short of a nightmare after sustaining one of the most talked about injuries of the 2017 racing season. Following two consecutive Main Event wins at the opening rounds of the Monster Energy Supercross Series, Roczen hit the ground violently at Anaheim Two and was left with an arm that was so badly broken, doctors considered amputation! Thankfully, that wasn't the case and you'll see now that the #94 is back at it like nothing even happened.
I was just thinking to myself the other day, "how crazy would it be if Roczen came out and won at the opening round in Anaheim, CA?" I can only imagine what the reaction would be from the spectators in the stands. Angels Stadium would absolutely erupt! Realistically, though, even if the young German finished inside the top 15 or 20, that would be a feat in itself! If you can recollect any of what he went through over the course of 8 months, it's safe to say that injury and all that entailed would send any other rider into retirement without hesitation. Roczen has gained my upmost respect for overcoming the adversity that he was faced with. I'm truly excited to see what he's got come January 6th.
