In between races, we took some time to browse our hard drives and look at photos taken throughout the year. We'll highlight each shot in a daily post, with the image sized to fit your computer screen or smartphone and described with a small backstory…
For a motocross-obsessed kid in the early 2000s, no mini cycle was sweeter than one of Mike Alessi’s. The fleet of Terry Varner-tuned Honda two-strokes were the envy of amateur racers around the country, myself included. God knows how many hours I spent hours crafting the wishlist of parts and modifications that could make my CR just as quick as the 800. With that said, it’s a little hard to believe that Mike has been a professional racer for nearly thirteen years. It seems like just the other day that the attention of the entire industry was turned towards the teenager making his debut at Millville on a CRF450R, but now he’s nearly thirty years old and back aboard red bikes.
How much Alloy gear do you think Mike still has? There are probably a few dozen brand new sets somewhere at the Alessi house, right underneath a box of Lockjaw helmet stabilizers.
