In between races, we took some time to browse our hard drives and look at photos taken throughout the year. We'll highlight each shot in a daily post, with the image sized to fit your computer screen or smartphone and described with a small backstory…

Recently while shooting Red Bull Straight Rhythm, I found myself standing in the photographers lane thinking to myself “We’re all just sitting here watching the best light of the day just disappear behind this track…” A real photographer moment of angst. The golden sunset light had been hitting certain scrub jumps and sections so perfectly that I already had shots framed up in my head, but the racing had yet to start. As riders awaited the start of the race program, I at least had a few moments of beautiful back lighting that kept me content including this shot of Ryan Dungey putting his goggles on just before the first races of the night. I am a huge fan of portrait photography, and love to try and capture a rider’s vibe or emotion in a portrait. What do you think Ryan was thinking?
