In between races, we took some time to browse our hard drives and look at photos taken throughout the year. We'll highlight each shot in a daily post, with the image sized to fit your computer screen or smartphone and described with a small backstory…
Every year, TransWorld Motocross comes out with a “Buyers Guide” issue for the month of November. The idea behind it is simple: Bring to the readers what is available in the retail market of new apparel and new dirt bikes. To say the shoot is a big project would be an understatement, and my role as the Photo Editor is to essentially be in charge of the entire thing. Lucky for me I get to work closely with our Art Director Shane Kinman, who’s straight up wizard in every way and a very creative individual. This year while putting our heads together on a concept we got stuck on the topic of long exposures (something I personally love to mess around with) and the gears started turning. Before we knew it, we were neck deep into what eventually became the latest November Buyers Guide issue that features the end result which involved countless hours inside our studio.
The images we created were done by a team of people genuinely enjoying themselves, with all of the “effects” shot in one go. This particular shot, which became the lead spread of the Motorcycle Guide (pick up the magazine and notice the Stranger Things font – another Kinman mastermind!) was a solo mission on the final day of shooting, and with a 15 second shutter I was able to hit the shutter, grab our magic homemade “light wand” and light painted the lines as you see them. I’m going to do a behind the scenes post later with some fun photos and cell phone snaps, but for now enjoy this shiny 2017 YZ250F as your brand new wallpaper. Pick up a copy of the issue and dive into all of the new stuff – on newsstands now!
