In between races, we took some time to browse our hard drives and look at photos taken throughout the year. We'll highlight each shot in a daily post, with the image sized to fit your computer screen or smartphone and described with a small backstory…
This isn’t some rad photo from a race; it’s a trip far down memory lane for me. If you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen this photo last week when I shared it to my followers. But, I feel like sharing it on the website, too, as my “Photo Of The Day.”
“My best friend Nick and I riding some dirt bikes at El Mirage back in the day, Oneal baggies and all. His sister, Anna, sent me this photo the other day and it brought back so many memories.
My mom was totally against dirt bikes, but I was obsessed and she knew that. So, she put her fears aside and made a deal with me: if I were to work at our dairy and save up enough money, I could buy my own dirt bike. And that’s what I did. A year of stomping through cow turds and shoveling out hay brought me enough money to buy a used 1993 Yamaha YZ80. The next few months consisted of lots of broken levers and bruises, but that couldn’t keep the smile off my face. Not only did that bike kickstart my love for motocross, it taught me that if you want something in life, you work your ass off and go get it. I can’t thank my mom enough for giving me that lesson.
My friend Nick has since passed, but the memories I have of him will live forever.”
