In between races, we took some time to browse our hard drives and look at photos taken throughout the year. We'll highlight each shot in a daily post, with the image sized to fit your computer screen or smartphone and described with a small backstory…

So you want to race motocross, huh? Right on, because to be honest this mud fest looked sort of fun! Maybe not fun when you’re a top-level racer going for a championship, but fun in the sense of just sending it into the mud for good times sake. When the race at Unadilla was delayed after all the rain came down, this corner became a lake. I looked at it beforehand and thought, “There’s no way they are running these guys through there.” I was wrong. Lap after lap, each rider hucked it through the “Blackwater 100” section of the Unadilla track and created huge splashes as a result. This appears to be a GEICO rider, but it’s too tough to identify the number. It makes for a great picture, and a memory of what will probably be the muddiest race of the entire year. We’ll welcome the sun tomorrow in Maryland, though!
