In between races, we took some time to browse our hard drives and look at photos taken throughout the year. We'll highlight each shot in a daily post, with the image sized to fit your computer screen or smartphone and described with a small backstory...
When Arnaud Tonus came to the United States, the Swiss rider was expected to bring another wave of speed to this side of the Atlantic. Solid rides on the MXGP circuit had caught the attention of Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki and they offered him a two-year contract in the 250 class. His time here has been somewhat of a struggle, as a severe illness kept him off of the bike for most of 2015 and small injuries hindered his performance in early 2016, but he seemed to find his form in the middle of the 2016 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship.
I’ve enjoyed plenty of talks with Tonus over the last few years. He gives off a quiet vibe, but is open with his answers. We recently discussed his future in the US and he said that although there are options to return to Europe, he intends to stay in the United States and achieve his goals.
In just a few weeks Tonus will represent his homeland at the Motocross of Nations alongside Jeremy Seewer and Valentin Guillod, and this lineup could very well put Switzerland high in the final results. An incredible performance at Maggiora could raise his profile to teams everywhere in the world.
