The search for the next big thing is never-ending, as racers will often be selected by top teams at a very age and then carried through the amateur ranks. Cameron McAdoo didn’t necessarily follow that same path, as he was noticed by Mike Alessi during his residency at Club MX in South Carolina and landed support from the SmarTop/MotoConcepts/Honda team for the last year of his amateur career and then his professional debut in 2017.
Midway through the 250 East Coast portion of the 2017 Monster Energy Supercross Series, the GEICO Honda team negotiated a deal to pull McAdoo to their squad for the remainder of 2017 and all of 2018. Shoulder injuries hampered his early results, like the major damage suffered at the 2017 RedBud MX which put him on the sidelines for the rest of the 2017 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, but his prep for the 2018 season has been much smoother.
As of now, McAdoo will again race the 250 East Coast SX tour and then the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship. Every race will be important for the young rider in his second year, but after seeing him in action on Honda’s test track, he could certainly be a contender at the front of the field.
