In between races, we took some time to browse our hard drives and look at photos taken throughout the year. We'll highlight each shot in a daily post, with the image sized to fit your computer screen or smartphone and described with a small backstory…

The 2017 Monster Energy Supercross Series officially kicked off last weekend at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, CA and it was a night of racing that many won't forget including first time winner Shane McElrath. The Anaheim One course didn't appear to be much of a challenge for the riders. In fact, many of the athletes even labeled the circuit as being "fast" and "easy." As a photographer, I too felt that the track wasn't challenging enough for the riders because there weren't any notable obstacles to shoot, save for the small sand section next to the starting gate.

Shooting on the floor of a Supercross race can be difficult at times and also very limiting when it comes to the places to shoot, and after several frustrating frames with a 300mm telephoto lens, I decided to go in the opposite direction (primarily because I wasn't producing anything to be proud of). I threw on my wide-angle and right away I flicked this shot of RCH/Yoshimura/Suzuki's Justin Bogle as he skimmed through one of the rough whoop sections on his way to the checkered flag. Hopefully I'll have better luck this weekend in SD, haha!
