In between races, we took some time to browse our hard drives and look at photos taken throughout the year. We'll highlight each shot in a daily post, with the image sized to fit your computer screen or smartphone and described with a small backstory…
This afternoon, we're heading to Jimmy Fitzpatrick's Fitzland to celebrate the life of Paul Smith by doing exactly what he would want his friends and family to do: ride! "Smitty333" was born in Nova Scotia and moved to the US in 2004 to pursue a career in freestyle motocross and became known as one of the oldest FMXers in the world. "Smitty" was best known for his ability to do do a backflip at the age of 49, which ultimately made him the oldest backflipping freestyle rider in the world! Tragically Smith was taken from the FMX community roughly one year ago after a failed attempt at a backflip.
"Every time he lands a backflip, he breaks his own world record for being the oldest backflipping FMXer,” said Fitzpatrick amidst the first day I had the pleasure of shooting Smith. "The guy just loves to ride, plain and simple." They say that legends never die, and what Smith was able to do at his age was nothing short of legendary.
Rest In Piece Smitty…
